I see that most of the options are the same as BibTeX8, but there are a couple "--location" and "--language" that it would be useful to know more about. I assume that they set the sorting method. One thing that is clearly wrong is line-end handling. BibTeX will happily read LFCR and LF files on my Mac with no complaints. The same files give errors with BibTeXU when using LFCR.
